My Story

A little bit crunchy, a lotta bit chaotic and absolutely zero interest in pretending I’ve got it all figured out. I’m not your polished, picture-perfect doula — I’m real, funny, a little sweary & fiercely passionate about women trusting themselves, knowing their options and owning their birth.

Hi, I’m Tasmyn.

Doula. Mum. Birth nerd. Professional woman-cheerer-on-er.

A mum of two ratbag kids, partner to a good man, lover of the simple things in life like good food, cold wine and a campfire in the bush - you literally can’t beat it.

When I’m not talking about birth, you’ll probably find me camping with my family, (although trips are definitely few and far between these days!), listening to a good audiobook or deep in my latest crochet obsession! Get me to bed by 8, with a cup of camomile, some yarn and a crochet hook and suddenly I’m wondering when the fuck I turned 87….?

I mean I’m pretty down to earth. I swear a bit but it’s mostly by accident... and I certainly don’t take myself too seriously.

So why birth?

Because I’ve been there, done that… twice.

And the difference in them? My gosh…. My first birth was absolutely chaotic and not at all what I dreamt of. There were interventions I didn’t fully understand and decisions I didn’t feel equipped to question. I walked away feeling disconnected from myself and, honestly, confused as fuck as to what even happened.

Making a plan for my second was hard, but it was also a no brainer. My non negatioable was to have continuity of care, birthing with total strangers seemed absolutley wild to me! Long story short but ultimately that lead me down the rabbit hole of home birth, and I’m still quite happy sitting down in that hole!

I’ll never forget the feeling of complete trust in myself, and the zero fear I had. Like, my midwife didn’t even make it so it was just me & my partner and our 2 year old son watching in awe. It was just simply birth, natural, peaceful and completely undisturbed.

Pretty safe to say that that experience changed me.

It showed me just how much the way we prepare for birth matters.

Not because preparation can guarantee you a particular birth but because understanding your options, working through your fears and building trust in yourself can completely change how you walk into birth and how you experience whatever unfolds.

The contrast of those two experiences lit a fire in me that I simply can’t put out (trust me, I’ve tried). The oxytocin is so strong, I can still feel it 4 years later!

If there is one thing in this life that I KNOW to be true…. its that I am supposed to do this work. I mean, its not even work, its simply just part of who I am.

So, I kinda just put a name to it and said right, I am now The Simple Doula.

I help women understand their choices, know their rights and feel confident making decisions about their own birth.

I’m not here to tell you how to birth.

I’m not here to push you towards a homebirth, a hospital birth, a natural birth or a medicated birth.

I’m here to help you decide what feels right for you.

We’ll talk about your options, unpack the fears, challenge some of the bullshit and prepare you for both the birth you’re hoping for and the unexpected moments that might come with it.

Most importantly, I’ll keep bringing you back to you.

Because you are the one having this baby.

Not your doctor.
Not your midwife.
Not your mum.
Not your partner.

You.

Whats it like to have me as your doula?

Think of me as the person in your corner who knows when to talk, when to shut up and when you really just need someone to rub your back.

I’m there as someone who knows you — what makes you tick, what scares you, what you want, what you absolutely don’t want and what makes you feel safe.

So when birth comes, I follow your lead. Sometimes that means getting right in there with you. Sometimes it means stepping back and giving you space. Sometimes it means helping your partner figure out what the hell they’re supposed to be doing. And sometimes it means sitting beside you, reminding you to breathe and telling you, “Yep. This is hard. But you can do hard things.”

I’ll bring the calm, the laughs, the practical support and the unwavering belief that you can handle whatever comes your way.

Whatever your birth looks like, my hope is that you come out the other side feeling like you were heard, respected and fully present in your own experience.

I love slow mornings, camping, being outside, good food and living life a little less rushed and a little more intentionally.

I’m drawn to natural and holistic ways of caring for ourselves and our families, but I’m absolutley not interested in perfection.

I’m more of a ‘good enough is good enough’ kinda gal.

I’m much more interested in making conscious choices that feel aligned, ones that are actually sustainable and fit into real life — because what’s the point of creating a “healthy” life that you absolutely hate living?

I guess that’s a pretty good reflection of how I approach birth too.

Less noise. Less “you should.” More trust, more understanding and more confidence in yourself.

And if you’re into that kind of thing, I reckon we’ll get along just fine.

So there you have it. That’s me, a little crunchy, a lotta chaotic, slightly sweary and completely bloody passionate about women and birth. At the end of the day, I’m here because I genuinely believe women deserve to feel good about the way they enter motherhood. Not because birth will always go perfectly, but because you deserve to feel informed, respected, supported and connected to yourself throughout it.

That’s the kind of doula I want to be. And I’d bloody love to be yours.
